Gonorrhea can spread through Kissing lips

Romantic kissing style every couple wants to try

According to a study by Melbourne researchers (Australia) published in Sexually Transmitted Infections, deep kissing (also known as French kissing or tongue kissing) may be the way spread gonorrhea.

To analyze whether throat gonorrhea can be transmitted through deep kissing, the researchers collected data from 3,091 men at a major public health center in Melbourne from 2016-2017. . All people include being gay or bisexual. Associate Professor Eric Chow of Melbourne's Sexual Health Center told The Independent that the selection of these subjects is intentional because gonorrhea is more common in this community than in heterosexuals in Australia.

Gonorrhea can develop in the rectum, throat or eyes and become increasingly difficult to treat due to some strains of infection that are resistant to antibiotics.

Traditionally, public health advocates have always advised people to use condoms to reduce the risk of gonorrhea. But after the new discovery, this advice may seem inadequate.

Participants were asked to fill out a survey describing their sexual behaviors with their male counterparts in the past 3 months and must clearly state three issues:

- Having a kiss but not having sex,

- Having sex but not kissing,

- Kissing and having sex.

The results show that the number of people who only kiss without having sex is the lowest (1.4%) but the proportion of these men who give positive results for throat gonorrhea is much higher than people who only have sex without kissing.

This makes researchers conclude that gonorrhea in the throat can be spread only through tongue kissing. But they made it clear that this study is only observational and therefore, can confirm the cause and effect.

Commenting that gonorrhea can be transmitted through kissing, Chow Chow added that using antiseptic mouthwash can be an effective way to reduce the risk of throat gonorrhea. "This is especially important, especially in the context of gonorrhea that is highly resistant to disease (also known as gonorrhea)," he added.

However, Chow explained that more research is needed and his team is currently conducting a clinical trial to check whether daily mouthwash can prevent gonorrhea. If it works, it can be a simple and inexpensive way of intervention for everyone.

Warning signs of gonorrhea

Drainage of the genitals

Penis discharge with pus is the most common sign of infection. The condition of pus is more or less depending on the level of infection. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), patients may develop pus within two weeks of infection.

Buttocks itch

Gonorrhea can affect the rectum, cause anal itching and bleeding, according to the Mayo Clinic. Some people have diarrhea and pain when using the toilet.

Sore throat

Oral sex is one of the ways to spread gonorrhea. Many people may experience gonorrhea in the throat without obvious symptoms.

Pain or swelling

Some people have no initial symptoms of gonorrhea. However, when an infection spreads to the surrounding areas such as the scrotum and testicles, you will have inflammation of the epididymis associated with groin pain, which is very dangerous.
