Finding effective measles prevention medication

Measles, a disease once thought to have been wiped out in many developed countries, is now back and raging in many countries around the world, including Vietnam.

Although the MMR vaccine has dramatically reduced the incidence of measles worldwide, song for a number of reasons, there are still many children who are not vaccinated of measles, the measles epidemic outbreak also caused scattered in more densely populated areas in the country.

In fact, the bfor the old global initiative all accepted to pay sick began a decade ago, the number of deaths due to measles still around 150,000 milestone since 2007. This status due to the lack of vaccines in developing countries, coupled with the concerns of parents about vaccines in the developed countries.

In an effort to end the measles epidemic raging in many countries, including the us and Canada, researchers at the University of the State of Georgia, United States of America and the Paul-Ehrlich in Langen, Germany has created a drink called the ERDRP-0519 can prevent measles virus spread on the species of the ferret.

Miscellaneous new has reduced the number of viruses, immune booster and infection reduce the number of deaths. According to the research group, new drugs have their cheap production cost and shelf stable. If approved for people, the drug can be stored to the local outbreak. Drugs like this is said can help eliminate long measles.

"People generally forget the dangers of the disease. The virus causes measles is contagious pathogen for which we have at present, "Dr. Richard Plemper from the Institute of medicine, the University of Georgia (USA), stressing in a meeting notice .

Dr. Plemper has partnered with Emory medicine development center and the Paul-Ehrlich Institute in Germany for research, manufacture a drug capable of treating drink for people exposed to the measles virus, but someone not yet developed symptoms. He stressed, this drug is not a substitute for vaccination with the vaccine.

Like many other disease-causing viruses, measles have incubation period of about two weeks before the symptoms reveal clear, and researchers consider this to be a golden period that their medicines can promote efficiency.

Explain about this, Mr Plemper says: "when the measles symptoms such as rashes are also at the virus being immune system of body control. Many of the symptoms appear is the result of the immune system are seeking to destroy the virus infection. In the whole period, the amount of virus in the patient's body falling quickly, as they had been largely destroyed the immune system. So at the moment the use of antiviral medications are not effective there. "

Measles virus

ERDRP 0519-drugs can attack and eliminate the enzyme polymerase, an enzyme that measles virus needs to multiply and grow. When this enzyme is excluded, the virus will not be able to synthesize new proteins and not spread out all over the body.

Mr Plemper said: "we have decided that we may need to combine their efforts to eliminate the disease. Ultimately, each individual has the right to choose vaccination or not. Immunity against viruses in the animals treated with new drugs is particularly encouraging, because it suggests, miscellaneous not only can save a virus-infected individuals but also contributing to fill the gap of measles resistance ".

New research, however, only in the early stages. It may take many more years before the drug is applied to people. The researchers had planned the next step to test the potential toxicity of the drug in monkeys.=
