Newborn baby with respiratory distress after his sister's innocuous pecking kiss

Recently, Ms. Thuy (24 years old, Hung Yen) shared the case that her son, Gia Thinh (28 days old) had respiratory failure due to his sister's kiss.

According to Thuy, Gia Thinh was born on July 23, 2019, weighed 3.7kg according to the normal delivery method. Baby Thinh is the third child in the house, before she has 1 5-year-old friend and 1-year-old friend. After giving birth, she steals a very good purse, and sleeps well.

Because 3-year-old baby was sick, she let her leave school. Because I could not send my child to class, at Thuy's house, she looked at both my sister and sister, leaving both the baby and me to sleep together.

It is known that, even though she has a cough, her daughter still likes to kiss her brother's cheeks and lips. At first she thought this was normal action, there was nothing dangerous. However, after a few days, baby Thinh has signs of coughing and wheezing.

At first, she only thought that when she was born, the nurse sucked up the fluid in her throat, so she coughed a little. She has a steaming way to drink lemon juice with sugar candy to get water for her to drink. However, on the third day, the baby coughs more, has difficulty breathing, lips are pale, foamy, sucking and crying.

Boys over 20 days old have respiratory failure after their sister's affectionate kiss.

Seeing the serious expression, she immediately took her to the hospital. The doctor said he had bronchitis. Ms. Thuy completed the procedure and sent her to the hospital in the afternoon, she suffered from respiratory failure, pneumonia. After a blood test, the doctor discovered that the baby was infected with the RSV virus.

The doctor who treated the baby told Thuy, the RSV virus was very dangerous, 10 babies and 9 babies were hospitalized and had to breathe through the machine.

Fortunately, Thinh was taken to the hospital in time, only had to breathe for 4 days. The doctor gave the treatment regimen to inject 2 more antibiotics and infusion to increase pulmonary discharge. Every day, the nurse will breathe aerosol, sputum, nasal wash 3 hours / 1 time.

After being hospitalized for 1 week, although still coughing and sputum, the condition of Baby Thinh has improved a lot. The baby is still being used to actively expel sputum 7 times a day. Whether the treatment for RSV pneumonia will last about 10-15 days depending on your baby's health.

Thuy wants to tell her story, hoping other families to be more careful when taking care of a newborn baby.

Currently, many adults still keep the habit of kissing lips, young cheeks without knowing the dangers behind it. Doctors always remind adults who are not allowed to kiss in the mouth, young cheeks. Infant resistance is very poor, easily infected by viruses in adult mouths. RSV is a fairly common virus.

In adults, RSV viruses often explode seasonally and cause diseases such as sneezing, runny nose, and productive cough. However, for young children, weak resistance, this virus can cause more serious symptoms.

RSV is one of the common causes of respiratory disease in newborns and young children with a strong ability to spread. RSV infection is the leading cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in children under two years of age.

Infected children and at high risk of death include: premature babies, low birth weight (fetal malnutrition), children with congenital heart disease and chronic diseases.
